village of Mykolaivka

Reference information
The village of Mykolaivka (Pokrovsky district, Donetsk region) has a rich history associated with the development of agriculture and railway infrastructure in Donbas. Founded in the second half of the 19th century. The village was formed as a traditional agricultural settlement, where the main activities of local residents were the cultivation of grain crops, sunflowers and livestock. In Soviet times, the village was closely connected with the activities of local agricultural enterprises and infrastructure connections with the city of Novogrodivka and the Grodivka railway station.

History

During the administrative-territorial reform, Mykolaivka became part of the Novogrodivka urban territorial community. The village was subordinate to the Mykolaivka starostynsky district. The village of Mykolaivka is an important associated settlement of the community, located in close proximity to the urban development of Novogrodivka and adjacent villages (in particular, Mykhailivka, Marynivka).

Population

According to the 2001 All-Ukrainian Census: The village had a population of 305 people. On the eve of the full-scale invasion (2021–2022): about 230–270 people permanently lived in the village. Current status: Due to intensive hostilities in the Pokrov direction in 2024 and the mandatory evacuation announced for the settlements of the Novogrodivsk community, the civilian population completely or almost completely left the village.

Features

Due to the small population, there were no schools of their own in Mykolaivka at one time or they were reorganized. The village students received primary, basic and complete secondary education in educational institutions of the city of Novogrodivka (in particular, Novogrodivka ZZSO I-III levels) with transportation by school bus, and in recent years - in a distance format.

Primary medical care to residents was provided through the network of KNP "Center for Primary Medical and Sanitary Care" of the Novogrodivka City Council (field visits by family doctors, ambulance calls and medical care in Novogrodivka institutions).

Cultural and commemorative events were held in cooperation with cultural institutions of the Novogrodivka community. Residents took an active part in celebrating memorable dates, public holidays and preserving local traditions of a traditional Ukrainian village in the Donetsk region.

Modernity

In the summer and autumn of 2024, the Pokrovsky direction became the center of the most intense fighting. The village of Mykolaivka was directly on the front line and was subjected to massive artillery and air strikes.

In late August - September 2024, the village was temporarily occupied by Russian troops. The village's housing stock, communications, and infrastructure were almost completely destroyed.
