History
The history of Marynivka dates back to the 19th century. It was formed as a traditional rural settlement of central Donbass, where the main occupations of residents for decades remained agriculture, animal husbandry and work at adjacent industrial and mining enterprises of the region. Rural life combined deep Ukrainian steppe traditions, respect for work on the land and close ties between generations.
For many years, the center of knowledge and education of young people in the village was the Marynivka comprehensive school (grades I–II). The school served not only as an educational institution, but also as a center for community cohesion, where holidays, educational events were held and local history was preserved.
The village had a village house of culture (or club) and a library. They were a leisure center, where creative evenings were held, national and folk holidays were celebrated, and veterans and local craftsmen shared their memories.
Features
Primary medical care for residents was provided by a paramedical and obstetrician station (FAP) or an outpatient clinic. To receive specialized medical care and administrative services, residents turned to the city institutions of Novogrodivka. Marynivka as part of the Novogrodivka community.
As a result of the administrative-territorial reform, the village became part of the Novogrodivka urban territorial community (with its center in the city Novogrodivka). In the administrative structure of the community, the village belonged to the corresponding starostyn district, which allowed for direct communication between the residents of the village and the city military administration/city council. Being part of the community contributed to the integration of communal, social and educational services.
Population
According to the 2001 All-Ukrainian Census, the population of the village of Marynivka was about 310–320 people. By 2022: The population remained relatively stable (approximately 250–300 residents), most of whom were older people and families employed in the agricultural sector and at enterprises in the Pokrovsky district.
Modernity
In 2024, as a result of intense fighting in the Pokrovskoye direction, the village of Marynivka found itself in a zone of active fighting. In late summer and early autumn of 2024, the village was temporarily occupied by Russian troops. The vast majority of local residents were forced to evacuate to safer regions of Ukraine. The village's infrastructure, housing stock, and social facilities were significantly damaged. Preserving the memory of Marynivka is a tribute to its history, the work of its people, and faith in the restoration of justice and the return of their homes.
