village of Lisivka

Reference information
The village of Lisivka, Novogrodivsk urban territorial community, Pokrovsky district, Donetsk region, is a settlement with a unique centuries-old history, where German agricultural culture, Ukrainian rural traditions, and the tragic pages of modern war are intertwined.

History

The village was founded in 1885 by German Mennonites who moved to the Donetsk steppes from the Molochany colonies. The original name of the settlement was Waldeck. The colony's lands amounted to 1,260 dessiatines. The settlement was later named after the local landowner Karpov (the related surname Lysov is also mentioned in historical documents).

The settlement was distinguished by a high culture of agriculture and engineering thinking. In 1895, the Yu. F. Legin machine-building plant began operating in the village, which produced agricultural implements and machinery for the surrounding farms. In November 1917, in accordance with the Third Universal of the Ukrainian Central Rada, the village became part of the Ukrainian People's Republic (UNR).

Before the decentralization reform, the village of Lisivka was part of the Galitsynivka village council of the Maryinsky district. As a result of the decentralization reform, the village became part of the Novogrodov urban territorial community of the Pokrovsky district, where it became part of the Galitsynivka starostyn district. It borders the village of Memryk and the city of Ukrain.

German colonists built the first school building in 1886 (rebuilt in 1892). Education has always been one of the key priorities of the local community. The villagers used the services of the Galitsynivka house of culture and library. The village carefully preserved the memory of the German founders, local folk art, everyday life and agricultural traditions. The village had memorial signs to soldiers who died during the Second World War.

Medical care

Primary health care was provided through the primary health care network of the Novogrodivka community (Halytsynivka general practice outpatient clinic - family medicine and the local paramedic station). Access to specialized medical services, administrative procedures, and higher education institutions was provided through the community center (Novogrodivka) and neighboring settlements of the district.

Population

According to the All-Ukrainian Census, 308 people lived in the village; at the time of the formation of the Novogrodivsk community (2020–2021), the number of permanent residents was about 235–300 people.

Lisivka during the war

Since 2022, the village has been in a zone of high intensity fighting in the Pokrovsky direction and has suffered significant destruction of civilian infrastructure and housing stock. Thanks to the joint efforts of the Novogrodov city military administration, police and volunteer organizations, the village residents were evacuated to safer regions of Ukraine.

At the end of 2024, during heavy defensive battles for the Pokrovsky district, the village of Lisivka was temporarily occupied by Russian troops. Despite the destruction and temporary occupation, the memory of the founders of the village, its economic achievements and residents remains an important page in the annals of the Novogrodov community.
