village of Komyshivka

Reference information
The village of Komyshivka belongs to the Novogrodivsk urban territorial community of Pokrovsky district of Donetsk region. The settlement arose in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries in connection with the development of agriculture and the expansion of the network of railways and industrial routes in the western part of the Donetsk region.

History

Historically, the village was formed as a compact agricultural and working-class settlement. A significant part of the residents worked at local agricultural enterprises, as well as at industrial facilities and mines of neighboring cities (Novogrodivka, Selidove, Grodivka).

Before the decentralization reform, Komyshivka was subordinate to the local village/village council, and later became part of the Novogrodivka urban community of the Pokrovsky district. Before the full-scale invasion and active hostilities in the Pokrovsky direction, the social and humanitarian infrastructure of the village provided for the basic needs of residents. Children were educated at a local secondary school. High school students also had the opportunity to study at Novogrodivka institutions.

Center of social life

The center of social life in the village was the village house of culture and the library. Local cultural and artistic events, children's clubs, commemorations of memorable dates and community holidays were held there.

Primary medical care for residents was provided by a paramedical and obstetrician station (FAP) or a family doctor's station. For specialized treatment and examinations, residents turned to hospitals in Novogrodivka or Pokrovsk.

Administrative and territorial reform

Thanks to the administrative-territorial reform, Komyshivka became part of the Novogrodovskaya urban-territorial community. In the summer of 2024, during heavy defensive battles in the Pokrovsky direction, the village of Komyshivka found itself in a zone of intense fire and active hostilities. According to official data from the Ministry for the Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, the village of Komyshivka has been under temporary occupation by Russian troops since August 23, 2024. As a result of constant artillery shelling and air strikes, the housing stock and communal infrastructure of the village have suffered extensive destruction.

Population

According to the 2001 census: The population of the village of Komyshivka was 560 people. Before the start of the full-scale war, approximately 400–500 people lived in the village. During the mandatory and forced evacuation of the civilian population, organized by the Novogrodovskaya MVA, the State Emergency Service, the police (White Angels) and volunteers in the summer of 2024, the vast majority of residents were evacuated.
