History
Novogrodivka is a city in Pokrovsky District of Donetsk Oblast, the administrative center of Novogrodivka Urban Territorial Community, located 50 kilometers from the regional center. The history of the city is inextricably linked with the development of the coal industry of Donbas, the selfless work of many generations of miners and the formation of the industrial potential of the region. The city was founded in 1939 as a mining settlement during the period of active development of coal deposits in Western Donbas. Thanks to the rapid development of infrastructure and growth in production, in 1950 the settlement received the status of an urban-type settlement, and in 1958 - the status of a city. For decades, the life of Novogrodivka developed around coal enterprises. They determined not only the economic profile of the city, but also its architectural appearance, a network of social facilities and the fate of thousands of local residents.
Population
Before the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in 2022, Novogrodovka had a population of 13,848.
The city was home to people of various professions, but a special place in its history was occupied by mining families, who made a significant contribution to the development of the community.
