Village of Galitsynivka

Reference information
The village of Halytsynivka is one of the important historical, cultural, and economic centers of the Novogrodivsk urban territorial community of the Pokrovsky district of the Donetsk region.

History

The village of Galitsynivka was founded in the second half of the 18th century (approximately 1780–1785). According to legend and historical sources, the name comes from the surname of the landowner Prince Galitsyn (Golitsyn), to whom the imperial government allocated land in the Vovcha River basin. The village is located along the Vovcha River (a tributary of the Samara), which played a key role in the development of agriculture, milling, and fishing. The main occupation of the local population was traditionally agriculture (growing grains, sunflowers) and livestock. During the Soviet period, a large state farm (later a collective agricultural enterprise) operated on the basis of the village, which specialized in crop production and dairy production.

Reform

Before the decentralization reform: Halytsynivka was the center of the Halytsynivka village council of the Maryinsky district of Donetsk region. The village council also included neighboring settlements (in particular, the villages of Karlivka, Mykhailivka, Lisivka, Yasna Polyana, Lisivka). As a result of the 2020 administrative-territorial reform, the Halytsynivka village council was liquidated, and the village of Halytsynivka became part of the Novogrodovka urban territorial community of the Pokrovsky district. The Halytsynivka starostyn district of the Novogrodovka city council was formed on the basis of the former village council, which allowed maintaining local governance and providing basic administrative services to residents on site.

Educational institutions

The village had a Galitsynivka secondary education institution: a center of knowledge and education for many generations of villagers. The school had long traditions, modern classrooms, a sports field and museum exhibits. There was a kindergarten that provided preschool education and care for the youngest residents.

Village infrastructure

The village house of culture was the center of the village's cultural life, where festive events, holiday concerts, performances by local amateur groups and creative circles for children were held. The village library kept a book fund, archival materials on the history of the village, local history collections and was a meeting place for young people and pensioners. There is a memorial/monument to soldiers who died during the Second World War in the village, where memorial rallies were traditionally held. The Galitsynivka general practice outpatient clinic - family medicine (or paramedic and obstetrician's station) operated, which was part of the structure.

The Center for Primary Health Care. Residents received primary health care, preventive vaccinations, referrals to specialists in Novogrodivka and Pokrovsk, as well as medicines under the "Affordable Medicines" program. Trade facilities (post offices, shops) operated, providing the basic household needs of the community.

Changes after the start of the war

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in 2022, the village of Halytsynivka came under constant enemy fire due to its proximity to the front line (in particular, the Pokrovsky and Kurakhiv directions). As a result of artillery, mortar and air strikes by Russian troops, the civilian infrastructure suffered significant damage and destruction - the school building, the cultural center, residential buildings and utility networks.

The Novogrodov city military administration, together with volunteers and the police ("White Angels"), organized a systematic evacuation of the civilian population, children and citizens with reduced mobility to safer regions of Ukraine. In the fall of 2024, during heavy defensive battles in the Pokrovsky direction, the village of Halytsynivka was temporarily occupied by Russian troops. Halytsynivka is a village with rich hard-working roots, deep Ukrainian rural traditions and a strong community. Despite the temporary loss of territory and the destruction of buildings, the history of the village, the achievements of its educators, cultural figures, and the work of many generations of residents are forever recorded in the annals of the Novogrodiv community and the history of the Donetsk region.
