Olena and Igor Makoviy: a family whose lives and dreams were taken away by war On November 29, 2023, a nighttime S-300 missile strike on a residential building in the city center of Novogrodivka cut short the lives of an entire family — 33-year-old Olena, her 38-year-old husband Igor, and their 8-year-old daughter Maria. Olena Makoviy worked in a bank branch, was a bright, responsible, and cheerful person. Igor Makoviy devoted himself to work at the mine, was a reliable support for his loved ones, and always came to help. The greatest value for the couple was their family. They always spent their free time together: Igor often took little Mariyka with him fishing — both in summer and winter, and Olena gave her family comfort and warmth. They sincerely loved each other and raised their daughter. That fateful night, the family was at home. The search and rescue operation lasted several days: only on the fifth day was it possible to identify Mariyka, and after some time, a DNA test confirmed the death of Olena and Igor. The deceased couple is survived by their parents, sisters, and loved ones. Memories of the Makova family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew them, and in the memory of the Novogrodno community. Eternal and bright memory.
